This is not a quiz, this is a homework.
Microfinancing
1) "What do you think of microfinancing?
2) Do you think it can eradicate poverty altogether?
3) Do you think Singapore (as a society) takes care of our poor?
1) I think that microfinancing is a good idea, becos it can decrease the number of poor people around the world. Why?
Because these poor people will make good use of the money to do business, and earn profit.
Instead of waiting for people to donate and have grass for dinner.
So by microfinancing, it can assist people to increase income.
2) Nope, to be realistic, the money used are loaned from charities.
What if one day the people stop donating to charities?
What's more, we're having a financial crisis this year.
People will be losing their jobs, so why would anyone want to donate to charity when dont might not even have enough money to support themselves?
3) To me, Singapore has taken good care of the citizens.
The government has setted up financial assistance scheme to help students with financial problems. So that these students will not have to worry about their school fees.
Two weeks ago, I got to do flag day.
Even though, times are bad, there are still people around willing to donate.
There are people walking up to me and donated willingly, be it 20cents or 50dollars.
The amount doesnt matter.
What matter is the thoughts and the willingless to help the poor.
Freedom writers
About the Freedom Writers movie, I think it's worth spending 122mins sitting in front of the black box.
From the title itself, it seems to be a compilation of stories.
Yes it is, but it has a deeper meaning behind that title.
The writers went through a lot just to survive.
Guns all around, fighting everyday just to LIVE and get respect.
Only people of the same race mix around.
These writers are actually students, or to make it sound worse, juvenile delinquents.
But this teacher, Erin Gruwell changed their lives.
How? You ask. By giving them the hope, that is.
The students were a rebellious bunch, but Mrs Gruwell never lost faith in them.
She believed she could help them to change for the better.
She sacrificed her family time by working part-time jobs to earn extra bucks to buy books for her students when the school refused to get new books for the students.
Soon, her family fell apart.
Mrs Gruwell had a unique way of teaching, like bringing the students out to musuem to learn more about the holocaust. Invited the person who took care of Anne Frank when she was alive to tell her stories during the war.
When these students from the freshman class moved up to the next level.
Mrs G and her students were informed that she will not be teaching them for the next year, they were upset and refused to resign to fate.
Aiyo, i dont want to write anymore already la, so long.
Common test over already leh, shud be sipping lemon tea at the beach.
WUTEVA.
